R U OK? Day β A Reminder to Check In π
Hi everyone,
Today is R U OK? Day β a day that reminds us of the importance of checking in with the people around us and starting meaningful conversations about mental health and wellbeing.
Life as a student can sometimes feel overwhelming. Between study, work, family, relationships and everyday responsibilities, itβs easy to put our own wellbeing to the side. Sometimes, we may also notice that someone around us isn't quite themselves.
A simple βAre you okay?β can make a difference.
You donβt need to be a mental health professional to check in with someone. You can:
π Ask β Start the conversation and genuinely check in.
π Listen β Give them space to talk without judgement.
π€ Encourage β If they need support, encourage them to connect with someone who can help.
π Check in β Follow up and let them know youβre still there.
And remember, you don't have to wait until things become a crisis to reach out for support. If you're feeling overwhelmed, stressed, disconnected, or simply need someone to talk to, support is available.
As the Student Counsellor at SCEI, I am here to support you. You are always welcome to reach out for a confidential and non-judgemental conversation.
Sometimes, you don't need to have the right words β you just need to start the conversation.
R U OK? π
Warm regards,
